The VDOE Office of Child Care Health and Safety has a very long manual called, Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers. In it are all the rules and regulations that this school must follow. Each month, I will point out a standard that is critical to the smooth running of the center. This month I am going to discuss standard:
8VAC20-780-245. Ongoing training.
A. Staff shall complete annually a minimum of 16 hours of training appropriate to the age of children in care.
Each staff member is required to do a minimum to 16 hours of training. To accomplish this we hold monthly meetings, participate in programs offered by the Virginia Department of Education, and participate in programs offered locally through FirstSpark and other organizations. All new Cuddlebugs staff are required to have CPR/First Aid, a 10-hour Pre-Service class, Daily Health Observation, Child Abuse & Neglect, Health & Safety Annual Update, and a Safe Sleep class within the first 90 days of employment. This is on top of our monthly meetings.
We use these trainings to further our knowledge of new developments in the field of child development as well as to learn new ways to teach the “same old stuff”. Serving you and your child(ren) using the most appropriate techniques, while still providing a safe and nurturing learning environment is our goal every day!
Ms. Sara is our CPR/First Aid instructor. If you are interested in taking a class, contact us to get more information and sign up for our next class!
